🌱🔬 Hands-on science in action!

Ms. Weikle’s Honors Environmental Science class recently conducted an engaging acid rain lab to explore how environmental factors impact plant growth. Students tested varying concentrations of vinegar to simulate acid rain and observed its effect on the germination rates of radish seeds.

Through this experiment, students were able to see firsthand how increasing acidity can influence seed development and overall plant health. It was a great opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world environmental issues while building critical thinking and data analysis skills.

Science is growing—one seed at a time! 🌍🌿

Yesterday, Mr. Strunk's World History II classes traveled to the Air and Space Museum/ Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. Students were able to see more than 200 aircraft on display, including an Air France Concorde and the B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay. This museum also holds the largest collections of Japanese and German World War II aircraft in the world. In addition, the museum offers helicopters , commercial, and private airplanes to admire. Also found in the museum are space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Apollo 11 Mobile Quarantine Facility, space suits, rockets, and more. To view the conservation work that was underway, students could watch through windows into a hangar and see the many works in progress.

On Friday, May 1, 2026, Luray High School had the honor of welcoming back Luray High School alumnus (1979) and former teacher/band director (1987-1991), Mr. David Beahm. Planned by his close friends, family, and coworkers, Mr. Beahm was presented a piano from the Sing for Hope organization to honor his time at Luray High School and in recognition of his 65th Birthday.
