Page County Technical Center Medical Assistant Students Complete Clinicals at Page Memorial Hospital
Clinical Medical Assistants at PCTC have finished their classroom instruction this week and will begin clinical observations next week at Page Memorial Hospital. Students have developed a solid knowledge base regarding the role of the Professional Medical Assistant in the healthcare setting. This includes having an understanding of the human body systems and the common diseases and disorders that may affect those systems. Students have been trained to obtain vital signs, administer medications through oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous routes, phlebotomy (drawing a patient's blood), performing EKGs, as well as front office procedures.

Each year, prior to Prom, the Page County Sheriff's Department and the Town of Luray present the "Arrive Alive" event to juniors and seniors addressing the consequences of driving while impaired. While the event is designed to be informative and enjoyable, the message is a weighty reminder to students.

Mrs. Sine's 10th grade English class has spent the last few weeks learning about the Holocaust. They just finished reading "Night" by Elie Weisel, and analyzed a collection of poems written by children who lived in the Terezin Concentration Camp. After they analyzed poems they made paper butterflies out of construction paper and string. After holding their butterflies up proudly, Mrs. Sine cut the strings of the ones who's poems were written by children who did not survive. Most of the students' paper butterflies were on the floor with cut strings by the end of this. 15,000 Children entered the camp at the start of the war. Only 100 children were left when the camp was liberated. Mrs. Sine's students have enjoyed learning about the Holocaust and have expressed how it has changed their outlook on life.
Congratulations to this year's Laurel Ridge Dual Enrolled Early College Award recipients from both Page County High School and Luray High School. We are so proud of your accomplishments and your representation of Page County Public Schools. Best wishes for your future endeavors.

Today is School Nurse Appreciation Day and we'd like to thank our very own, Mrs. Emily Michael. Thank you for all you do for our students and Luray High School.
