Digital Awareness Day 5
Power up passwords.
Work together with kids to help them come up with complex passwords. Never repeat passwords. Think outside the dictionary. Use phrases and special characters that make passwords hard to guess but easy to remember. Remind kids to keep passwords private and change them regularly.

information your kids are sharing. Especially in the beginning, it's better to share
very little.Avoid location tracking. Location-aware apps can be super helpful. But apps that use a device's location to help other people find your kid or offer them ads for nearby businesses should be used with caution. Turn them off if you can.

Good afternoon,
All PCPS schools will open on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, February 13, 2025. 12-month staff report on-time. Please arrive at your bus stop two hours later than usual. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
This delay will allow Division staff to evaluate conditions in the morning to determine if there are any impacts from the forecasted ice tonight. If conditions are unsafe for school buses or other factors, such as power outages, arise, we may need to cancel school altogether. Should we need to change the operational status of schools, that decision will be made as early as possible tomorrow morning.

Digital Awareness Day 3--
Develop your child’s instincts.
Help kids learn to trust their guts so they can suss out creepy, risky, or otherwise unsafe online situations. Playact a few scenarios: What if someone asks to take a conversation private? What if someone asks for your phone number? What if someone invites you to a private chat room? Be aware that some kids (even "good" kids) will explore iffy stuff online out of curiosity. But the minute they feel uncomfortable, they need to shut things down.
Skip quizzes. Help kids identify and avoid clickbait, quizzes, special offers, and anything that asks for personal or private information. This helps keep information secure and devices safe.

Due to a forecast of continued snow and low temperatures tonight, all PCPS schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. All afternoon and evening events and activities are also cancelled. 12-month staff do not report unless contacted by your supervisor.

PCPS Digital Awareness --Day 2
Talk about the pressure to overshare.
Tweens and teens might feel pushed into sharing a photo for different reasons: a dare, fear of damaging a relationship, or just because "everyone else is doing it." But this one is non-negotiable. Tell them that you understand how bad it can feel to disappoint a friend. Then help them imagine how much worse it would feel if a private picture were shared with their whole school. For younger children: talk about the difference between what's OK to share online (favorite color) and what's not (home address).
