This is a reminder from Page County Public Schools that Friday, October 23, 2026, is a 12:30 p.m. EARLY RELEASE for students. This is scheduled Teacher Work Time/Professional Development.
Dr. Huber worked with Springfield Elementary School 4th grade students in Miss Dodson's Science class to learn about erosion.
Mrs. Deborah Lucas and Mrs. Lindsey Lucas, PCHS School Counselors, had the opportunity to present a breakout session at the 2026 Virginia School Counselors Association Conference in Hampton, VA.
Their presentation, titled "One Night, Every Path: Supporting Seniors Beyond Graduation," highlighted Page County High School's annual Senior Info Night held each September. Every senior has a unique vision for their senior year and life after graduation. This presentation showcased how they created a "one-stop" Senior Night experience that gives an overview of expectations and opportunities for their senior year. It honors all post-secondary pathways -- whether students plan to enter the workforce, enlist in the military, pursue a trade, or attend a two-/four-year college or university. This event helps students and families explore options and leave with a confident plan.

During the 2026 General Assembly session, House Bill 996 (HB 996) was passed to help improve the transition from high school to adult services and opportunities for students with disabilities. The legislation directs the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), the Virginia Department of Education, and other partners to develop a plan for clearer transition guidance, better information and resources, stronger connections with Community Services Boards, and an online resource to help students and families understand their options after high school.
The goal is to help more students with disabilities successfully move into postsecondary education, training, employment, day programs, independent living, and life-skills programs.
We are asking families, educators, Community Services Board staff and service providers to complete a brief survey. Your feedback will help us understand what information is hard to find, where barriers exist and what resources or supports would make the transition process easier.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and share it with others who may want to provide input. Your experience can help shape better transition information and supports for Virginia’s students and families.

Join us this week for National Bullying Prevention Month by wearing Orange on Wednesday, October 21st. Do this as a reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, included, and supported.
Last week, Dr. Huber was able to begin his week with Kindergartners, then spent time at Page County Technical Center with Welding students, and he finished out his week by riding on Bus 5 with Mrs. Lorraine Vardy.

More than a decade ago, a group of youth with disabilities requested that Virginia officially recognize October as Disability History and Awareness Month (DHAM). "Disability history education and awareness will promote positive attitudes in schools creating a culture of mutual respect, understanding, and equal opportunities for all."

Yesterday, Dr. Huber was able to begin his day with some of our youngest learners by visiting Kindergarteners at Luray Elementary School. In the afternoon, he was able to participate in the Welding I class at Page County Technical Center. Dr. Huber is greatly impressed with our technical center's programs. "I'm amazed at the talent of our students, and the care that our teachers take in providing them with support, encouragement, and lifelong skills," Dr. Huber said.
This morning, Dr. Huber had the pleasure of joining Mrs. Plum's Kindergarten class at Luray Elementary School. Today, there was practice with fine motor skills on a project to learn about the five senses. Next, Dr. Huber and the students read a story together that taught about kindness, and finally they learned the difference between fiction and nonfiction. During these activities Dr. Huber was witness to these young learners showing grit and determination as they practiced new skills. Mrs. Plum is a fantastic example of what great teaching and learning looks like in Page County Public Schools.

Continuing with his classroom visits this morning, Dr. Huber dropped into Ms. Whetzel's classroom at Page County Middle School. There, he was able to help students practice with common multiples. "What a great way to end the week!"
