PCMS FFA members have participated in a number of activities to study and preserve some of
the traditional farm practices of Page County. In September, we had an apple butter boil at the
school to support the Page County Heritage Association. Members started early in the morning; opening over 60 gallons of applesauce to boil down in two kettles for apple butter. In the mid-afternoon we finished the boil and put the apple butter in jars for the PCHA to sell at the
Heritage Festival. In October, Showalter’s Orchard gave a tour of their orchard and facilities.
Members picked a variety of apples, including Pink Lady and Granny Smith. We returned to the
school to clean and cut up the apples to be pressed into cider. Students were able to take
home over a gallon of fresh cider each to share with their family.
