Dolly Parton believed in the power of literacy and education. Through charity she supported education and literacy efforts across the country. She started the Imagination Library in 1995 as a tribute to her father who couldn't read and she felt it limited him and prevented him from fully chasing his dreams. She wanted children to have access to books at home no matter their families income level in hopes to inspire a lifelong joy of reading in children. Luray Elementary wants to help the local Page Imagination Library in honor of Dolly's contributions to literacy and education. "Dream more, learn more, care more and be more." ~Dolly Parton

It's Attendance Awareness Month. Here are some attendance tips for families.
English learners have spent this week learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. They observed the different stages of metamorphosis from caterpillars to butterflies.
5th grade math students having fun playing a multiplication game with 10-sided dice to create their equations and attempt to solve with the greatest product. They had a blast!
Yesterday Mrs. Pullin's 4th graders brought reading to life. Students read about a character and her classmates trying a “yoga tree” activity—first balancing independently and then working together to create a connected group tree.
Instead of simply reading about the experience, they tried it themselves. Students first challenged themselves to balance independently and then worked with their classmates to form their own “forest.” This hands-on activity gave students an opportunity to make a meaningful connection to the text, better understand the characters’ experiences, and think about how working together can provide support and balance.
Mrs Nicol’s 4th grade science classes investigated cicada exoskeletons and discussed scientific vs nonscientific questions they could ask to learn more.

PCPS SAFETY UPDATE:
Law enforcement has reviewed the concern that prompted PCPS to implement a precautionary low-level lockdown earlier today and has advised that the additional precautions are no longer necessary.
The low-level lockdown has been lifted, and all PCPS schools are resuming normal operations. All school activities may resume as planned.
We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of our students, staff, and families and thank our local law enforcement partners for their continued support.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.
